Macka B took over the fortress of Sabac!
Famous British reggae artist, who invented Warrior style with Mad Professor, held a very successful show on Sabac Summer Festival in Sabac, Serbia, on August 11, 2011. Balkan Music Box was the agent and provided organizational and administrative support for the concert.
Hot Summer night in Sabac. Old fortress on the river bank was shaking as audience started dancing to the first sounds of the Roots Ragga Band, riddim that backed Macka B. When Macka B entered the stage and started jumping and communicating his message to the crowd the hell broke loose. 90 minutes of pure positive energy! Sabac had a large reggae event for the first time, as organizers admitted, and Balkan Music Box hopes that it will not be the last.
MACKA B
Macka B is a British-born reggae artist, performer and activist with a career spanning thirty years in the United Kingdom and Jamaica and he is one of Britain's most influential dancehall toasters, pushing the music back toward a Rastafarian political consciousness. He takes his name from the Judean rebels against the Romans, the Maccabees.
His rough, gravelly vocals gave him an instantly identifiable sound, and his production - chiefly handled by Mad Professor - updated dub reggae techniques for the dancehall age, proving that the two sounds aren't mutually exclusive. Although the vast majority of Macka B's material is devoted to spiritual and social messages, he did lighten the mood with occasional humorous novelty material. He shunned any aspirations for a commercial crossover, however, staying true to the sound and spirit of reggae's roots. His 1986 album Sign of the Times still remains a milestone of British reggae, and he continued to record for Mad Professor's Ariwa label into the new millennium and continues to spread consciousness and break down the barriers.
Macka B has toured Japan all over America, Africa, Hawaii, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Spain, Poland to name but a few. He was the first Reggae artist to tour the former Yugoslavia (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia). He has performed alongside artists such as Burning Spear, U-Roy, The Wailers, Kool and the Gang, Lee Perry, Culture, Gladiators and many more.
